    Description

Antique Georgian Sterling Silver Needle Case
    English * Circa 1800
This English needle case is a lovely Georgian example, sterling silver with bright cut leafy engraving on the sides. It is not marked but tests solid sterling silver.
English silversmiths didn't hallmark small items (and have to pay duty on them) until much later.
There are some little indents on the bottom made by the needles but the overall condition is excellent with no splits, repairs or other damage. One side has a cartouche but it's not monogrammed. It measures almost 3 1/8" long and fits together securely. Two similar silver English needle cases are shown on p. 66 of Gay Ann Rogers'
    book
An Illustrated History of Needlework Tools.
