Antique Wooden Darning/Sewing Egg & Sterling Silver ThimbleEnglish * Hallmarked 1901
This smooth sewing egg is carved of wood that has a beautiful grain. It unscrews and inside are wooden bobbins that slide over a wooden needle case. On top of that is a sterling silver English thimble with the hallmarks for Birmingham 1901 and the maker's mark for Henry Griffith & Sons. The wide band has diamond waffle and daisy designs and it's about an American size 7 (14.5 mm diameter opening). The condition is excellent, in round. with no holes, repairs or other damage.
The egg measures 3 3/4" long and 2 1/8" in diameter. It is in
excellent condition with no chips, cracks or loss and it screws together perfectly. The shape was so it could also be used as a darner, but fortunately it wasn't and the surfaces are smooth and free of damage.
